Bowl Making ..... Again


I have been on a bowl making spree.
I made the forms out of egg cartons that I soaked 
and pulverized into pulp.  



The forms were covered with emptied tea bags and paint
then other paper, and sometimes drawings or images were added. 
They have a final coat of paste wax to seal them.



These bowls can't hold soup, 
but I can imagine them holding some of my 
rock or shell or feather collections. 








I also made a couple of small bowls 


To add to my small bowl collection.


And my stack of larger bowls is also growing.


Its been fun making these bowls,
but I have decided to take a bit of a creative
and blogging break to get outside
and enjoy what may be the last bit of our summer.

    Absolutely exquisite. Made all the more so because they are made of such humble, recycled materials. I really love these, and with their subtle colouring and minimalist decoration, are very restful on the eye. What gorgeous work.

    The bowls are quite lovely; I especially like the one with the trees. I never would have thought of using egg cartons for pulp, but that is an excellent idea!

    Hi my,name ronit . I try to make one bowl .but didnt anderstud how to diying them you,said with tea,bag the first is with white,? And can you explain the prossece of painting the,bowl with tea bag? Thank

      First I made a bowl using a pulp I made from egg cartons. When it dried I covered it with tea bags that I glued on and then I added a thin layer of paint, or covered parts of the bowl with layers of coloured tissue paper or coloured tea bags (That I glued on). If I wanted to add some drawings or images, I added those before I added the paint, and painted around them.
      I hope this is helpful.

    WOW!!! I love your bowls...they are so unique and earthy. I'd love to try and make them...see what comes of the process. What exactly is paste wax? Never heard of it before. Thanks.

      Thanks hawker9999! Glad you like my bowls. I use Dorland's Wax Medium to finish off the bowls. Hope that helps!

    Your bowls are beautiful. How exactly did you pulverize? I ripped up two egg cartons, added some water, let that soak and massage, added more water squeezed and manipulated like dough. Is that correct? What should the texture of the pulp look like before forming?

    Love the earthy primitive look of your bowls. My eyes are especially drawn to the one with the trees on the sides. Was that a drawing and how do you form the bowl? Do you use an existing bowl? Could these be used outside with the proper Meterials to protect it? Thx for sharing.
