Packaging

I made some gift packaging recently. 

Some of it I sold, and some I kept for myself to package up some Christmas gifts. 

In my traditional way of making things, 

I sewed and decorated envelopes from paper that was blank on one side. 

I stamped leaves or Christmas designs on the sewn envelopes as well as on some stickers, and tore stripes of old sheer curtains for the ribbon. 

Now its time to get the gifts inside them and put them under the tree!

Jewelry # 2 - The Long and Short of It

 

 

 

 

 I continue to work at finishing this jewelry project. 

 

 

 

 I made a few of these some time ago,

but ran out of chain and the project was put on hold.

 

 

 

I have finally managed to finish a number of them

 

 

 

 I have made them so they can be worn as a long necklace

 

 or a shorter necklace.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Then I worked at creating a label and a way to hang them on the rack I have.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 I am happy to have many of  them finished. . . . .although I still have a few more in the making!

 

Handmade Boxes

I was looking around for a box for a Christmas gift, and when I couldn't find what I needed, I decided to make one instead.

It is made out of a big piece of paper and I added a piece of cardboard to the bottom to make it a bit more stable.

Before I glued it together, I decorated the top and the sides with a handmade stamp.

The box is a bit over 5 inches square, and 3 inches deep.

To finish it off, I tied a piece of ripped qauze like fabric, and tied it around the package.

This is a smaller box I made. I sewed a piece of material onto the top of it for decoration. (before I glued the box together)

Inside the box is a piece of matching material, that hides and protects a piece of handmade jewellery.

I learned how to make these boxes on line, but unfortunately I forget where. If anyone knows, please let me know!

Handmade Packaging

I had made these little packages to use for packaging up necklaces and earrings that I sold at the art sales I attended. They are easy to make, and yet I really like how they look, and they use paper out of an old cookbook.

I really dislike buying paper to wrap gifts in, as I find there is spare paper all around us, that usually gets thrown away. So I decided to make some in the same style for Christmas gifts.

I started by cutting a piece of paper twice the size that I wanted the package to be.

I sewed straight across the top for decoration (not joining anything together) and then put the two edges together (without creasing the paper) and sewed them.

I then put the sewn edge in the middle front of the package and creased the edges, and sewed across the bottom of the package.

I finished it off by decorating it with stamps, folding the top edge over, and putting a torn strip of fabric on it that will be used to tie the package closed and to decorate it.

Grungy Folder

I created this grungy folder to help me in learning to draw loose pen drawings.

Inside it has pockets full of paper that I am going to draw on. I have been really wanting to learn to draw with pen, and just sketch for the fun of it. But I haven't been able to do it in a book, because I have this fear of messing up a nice book (I know it's dumb!) To let myself try to sketch with pen, I created this grungy folder that is already messy, and the pages are loose inside. If I really don't like how a drawing turns out.... well I can just throw that page away.

and the ones that I am okay with keeping will all be neatly contained within my grungy folder.

Yesterday I decided to make some boxes/packages that I can package jewelry in at the sales I am attending this month. I realize that this is a bit backwards, as really I should be busy making the jewelry to sell prior to the boxes.... but that is not how my creative pushings seem to work. So... I made some boxes, and decorated them by sewing some material on the top.
When you open the box up it has a piece of the matching fabric inside that the necklace will be wrapped in.
I knew I couldn't make enough boxes for all the necklaces I have made (or rather hope to finish), so I made 10 of these for some of the necklaces, and for the necklaces that won't get tangled, I made bag like packages.
These packages were made out of a page out of a old cookbook (nice heavy paper). I sewed them and tied a ribbon to them.

I think both the boxes and the packages will work great..... now I better get busy finishing up the necklaces!
