No Framing Required

I have been wanting to create some pieces that don't need framing, so I took a wooden cradle board (shallow wooden box) that my husband made for me and used tea bags, paint, pastels, ink, charcoal and cold wax to create this piece.

I like how it looks hanging straight on a wall - no glass - no mat - no frame.

  6. This looks super! Did you make the sides a bit darker than the main image? It seems to read that way in the photos which also adds to the look of a natural frame.--Julie

    1. I did darken the edges of the front with a bit of brown ink. The edges of the boxes are slightly darker then the front, but not too much.

  11. Really lovely - I especially like the board as a way of displaying - so right for the style of the pieces.

  12. I love work that stands alone without the use of a frame and this piece is beautiful! I love the faint text behind the layers and the muted tones you have achieved. :)

  18. Another good one Kim...the blue circles are a nice touch to all the earthy tones you use often in your work.
