Dance With The Wind

This weeks challenge is hosted by Patrice.  She came up with the wonderful theme of DANCE.

I thought about it for a while, and decided one of my favourite dances is with the wind.  Be that a person, a bird or a tree dancing with the wind - I love the interaction.

And since I felt like playing with collage this week, I laid out bits of resin paper and tea bag dyed paper into this plant dancing in the wind.  It is not glued down at this point ....

and it continued to change a bit when I glued it down.

Then I decided to play with the words.
I love the way words look, but have always steered away from making words the main focus of my creations.
Perhaps this is because  in grade 2 my teacher made me stay after school and write lines because my printing was messy.  I had to write - 'I will print neatly.' over and over every night.
So I believed I would never have 'nice' handwriting.
I enjoyed making this so very much.... and have been thinking of what other words I may create with.

I then had a look how both of these pieces looked  in a mat.

Have fun dancing with the wind!

  1. I love your interpretation of dance and your collage demonstrates that beautifully. Both pieces are lovely. I have never heard of resin paper before. Is it paper that you have coated with resin yourself ?

  2. Love the colors and the motion of them both.

  3. Beautiful flowing wind blowing work, Kim.
Your teacher was wrong and should be made to print out "I will never discourage a child again!"
It's windy here today so I'll just say goodbye to go dance in it. xo

  4. I agree with Carole--these are quite beautiful. The neutral colors lend a little poignancy, I think. How appealing to dance in the wind!! Cindi

  5. I love the feeling of wind and dance you have captured. Also intrigued by resin paper. I just had fireworks in my head as an idea came to me! Thank you as ever for the inspiration.

I think some teachers have a lot to answer for!

  8. Dearest Kim! Damned those teachers!!!! My grade five art teacher chastised me for having the horizon line right in the middle of my drawing, and to have it intersect with the giraffe's head. I never picked up a drawing utensil after that until I was in my 50s. And actually, I learned that I am not half bad at it. I love your words and hope that you will do lots more of them. Both of your pieces have such lovely movement in them. And of course your palette continues to bring joy to me. Love your work. N, xo

  9. love your warm colors. My hand writing is the worst. I think 100 times faster than my hand can write. I bet your teacher was a slow thinker!

  22. Powerful post; overcoming a scold from the past is inspiring, Kim. My mother used to play a piano piece called the 'frollicky, rollicky wind', and that is what I hear when I look at these two beautiful collages.
    xxoo, sus
