Storytelling With Collage

This new book,
arrived at my house this week
and I am leisurely enjoying every page and story.

Roxanne shares so much in this beautiful book
with lots of her beautiful images, words
and inspiration for creative endeavours.

She also includes many works by collage artists.

I am so thrilled and honoured to have my work included in this beautiful book.

Some New Books

This week my creative time was spent
making some new little books.

You can see the one I made and filled earlier this year,
and the two new ones ...... waiting to be filled.

These books are quite small

and have accordion style pages.

I am now debating
whether to put them up for sale
or fill them myself.

I want to share another NEW book. . . .
Roxanne Evans Stout's new book has just been released in the U.S.A.
and will be available in Canada in a couple of weeks.

I can't wait to see it!
Not only because she included a creation of mine in it,
but because I LOVE everything Roxanne creates,
and know that there will be so much to enjoy
in both the images and the words.

Storytelling with Collage

The wonderfully creative Roxanne Evans Stout
has just announced that her new book
Storytelling with Collage
is available for pre-orders here.

I have taken an online course with Roxanne,
and I know her book
will be filled with beauty and wonder filled creations
that she will share with us.

I was thrilled when she asked me to make a piece for the book.
Below is just a bit of what I created.

I can't wait to see the book!

A Tale To Tell

Yes, I have a Tale to Tell.
Some time ago Somerset Studio Magazine had a readers challenge with the topic 'Winter'.
Living in such a winter part of the world, and enjoying it as I do, I  knew I wanted to submit something.
I made a little book and mailed it off, not even knowing if it would make it before the deadline.

But it did,
and then I got an email asking if I would be interested in writing an article on how I created it.
And of course I was!

My little book was made with my handmade paper and winter photographs that I have taken.

Yesterday I received my copy of the magazine in the mail.
And WOW!- what a beautiful job they did of displaying my little book.

Three pages of mostly pictures of my little creation.

And to top that off they even put it on the cover of the magazine!

If you are in a bookstore and see this magazine,
just know that it is for me a dream come true - and one that I wasn't even expecting!

New Magazine Article

The new edition of Pages magazine will be available very soon, and I can't wait to see it as I have an article in the magazine.

Here is one of the images of the books I created that is being used in the magazine.  Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of them before I mailed them to the publisher, so I don't have more to share right now.

Here are a few pictures of books that I made that are in a similar style to the ones in the magazine.

I can't wait to see the  magazine in real life.

Scavenger's Book

I enjoy making books, and I enjoy creating with items that are heading to the recycling bin.

So using paper and fabric that was ready for recycling I made these books and sent them off

to GreenCraft Magazine.

They invited me to write an article on how they were made, and that article is in the recent edition (February 2012) of GreenCraft.

The soft covers are made with layers of fabric and paper all glued together on which I paint and stamp and when finished I cover with paste wax.

The pages are from the stack of old posters that are blank on one side. To make pages I put two together (blank side out) and sewed around them to make one piece of paper.

I really enjoy making these books, and was happy to be able to share how I make them.

Things to Share

I often have a big 'To Do' list, and at the top of my list a few days ago was to write a letter to an elderly friend of mine.

I wanted some nice paper to write to her on, but I didn't have much time. So I took a page out of a glossy used book I had bought for $1, and with an old envelope as a template, I made an envelope out of it.

With the scrap pieces I had left over, I decorated a couple of pieces of paper to write the letter on.

When I had written the letter, I tucked it inside the colourful envelope and popped it in the mail.

The other thing I have to share is about the newest edition of Somerset Studio. Last January I took an online course from the very talented Misty Mawn, and she wrote an article for this magazine.

And to my happy surprise my artwork was in it!(bottom two pictures) She had invited people to send her some artwork for her article, but I also knew she had received a lot of different people's work, so was not expecting to see mine.

and even though they spelled my name wrong in the magazine I am smiling from ear to ear!

What I Am Up To.....

This edition of Green Craft Magazine came out over a month ago, and I am happy to say that I finally have a copy of it.

The reason it makes me smile SOOOO much is because I have an article in it.

The article explains how to make what I call "Tea Bag Luminaries".

The magazine shows such wonderful images of the luminaries I made ....

and has the instructions that I wrote on the page following this one.

And when I saw the pictures in the magazine, I had the desire to make some more luminaries. So this is where I have been sitting - on the floor with trays of dried bits of flowers and leaves and scraps of materials and dried tea bags and bottles of inks all around me

As I work towards what will become more tea bag luminaries!
