Drawing Challenge - VEIN

Veronica has kindly hosted our drawing challenge this week

and has provided us the theme 'VEIN'.

As I have studied more botany then anatomy, 

I associated veins with leaves. 

"Veins provide support for the leaf 

and transport water, minerals and food energy 

through the leaf and on to the rest of the plant."

I created a miniature book 

with pages covered with paint and ink

and leaves covered with veins.

I hope to find the perfect quote

to write a few words

on each of the pages.

Aqua

This weeks Drawing Challenge theme is 'Aqua'

So I found my supply of paper that I have decorated in that colour 

and started to play. 

I started tearing bits of paper and my bunny with a balloon emerged.

She looks like she is bundled up and patiently waiting for a party!

The little bits of left over aqua coloured paper ended up in my new sketchbook 

-a WIP (with another bunny!)

I will share more of this little book in my next post.

DC- Dinner Gala

This weeks drawing challenge is 'Dinner Gala'. 

I rarely (if ever) attend formal parties,

and therefore wasn't sure what would show up for my drawing challenge this week. 

 But  this little lady wanted to go, 

so I did her hair and put on some earrings

 and she was off to her fancy party ready to dine and dance the night away. 

I was then looking for things to draw for my (not quite) daily drawing exercise,

and with 'Dinner Gala' still on my mind,

 I decided to draw some of my jewelry. 

If I had drawn her on a bigger canvas, 

 I could have drawn her a nice necklace to wear as well.

Drawing Challenge - Water

Frozen

Water for miles around here is still frozen

which influenced my creative interpretation of 'water' 

this week's drawing challenge theme.

Forest Girl

It has been a long time since I have joined in the weekly drawing challenge.

This weeks prompt was 'hair'

And my girl's hair came straight from the forest. 

While I was working on it, I kept hearing Mary Oliver's beautiful poem in my head. 

Sleeping In The Forest

I thought the earth remembered me, she

took me back so tenderly, arranging

her dark skirts, her pockets

full of lichens and seeds. I slept

as never before, a stone

on the riverbed, nothing

between me and the white fire of the stars

but my thoughts, and they floated

light as moths among the branches

of the perfect trees.  All night

I heard the small kingdoms breathing

around me, the insects, and the birds 

who do their work in the darkness. All night

I rose and fell, as if in water, grappling

with a luminous doom. By morning

I had vanished at least a dozen times

into something better.

Inspired by Nature

 

I am constantly inspired by nature,

so knew I had to join in with the challenge theme of nature

hosted by Nadine at Tiny Woolf

 

I went on a 15 km (9 mile) hike a couple of days ago just a few miles from home

(photo above)

 

 

 

And last weekend my daughter and I drove a couple of hours to hike on the Alaskan coast.

We are always amazed the difference in vegetation that we find just a few hours away.

 

 

The forest is so big and lush compared to the forest where we live.

 

 

This short hike takes you to a little bay on the ocean,

where we love to explore and discover new things.

 

My pockets were heavy with smooth stones that I had collected,

and I also found a lovely piece of driftwood that found its way home with me.

 

 

 

The clouds and bits of showers added to the  beauty of the mountains.

 

 

 

On the hike back to the car, I picked a few pieces of fern

 

 

 

That joined my piece of driftwood

 

 

 

 

 

 

 and a few of my rocks that I collected on the shore.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The beauty I find in nature is a constant inspiration.

Finding The Key

The drawing challenge theme for this week  is key/hole.  

It is hosted by Renilde

I really didn't think I would have time to participate this week, but an idea kept floating around in my head.

And when my pencil hit the page this little key girl appeared. 

And she was played with on my computer. 

And then 3 more appeared.

And they too wanted some play time on the computer.

Finding Words

'Proverb or Saying'

 

- that was the challenge this week, given to us by Patrice

 I love words, and so it took me quite some time to decide what words I wanted to create with. 

But I finally decided on these ones.  

They are from a poem by E.E. Cummings written in 1952.  

Below is the full poem.

 

I carry your heart with me (I carry it in my heart)

I am never without it

 (anywhere I go you go,my dear;

 and whatever is done by only me is your doing,my darling)
I fear no fate (for you are my fate,my sweet)

I was not satisfied with how this piece turned out - but it was a learning piece, and I am happy with that.

I learned things not to do next time.

 

- too many dots will make it too busy

-varied letter/word size is important  

- more white space is needed             

- perhaps a thicker black line (or pen)

Along the way today I found some other words.

 

These words were written last September when I also took the photographs.

It was a time that I missed my words so much.

I struggled to find them in my head as I was healing from a concussion.

A concussion that toppled my world almost sixteen months ago now.

I continue to heal from it.

Fortunately my words are beginning to come more easily.  

 

 

It has been a lesson in patience.
