2014 - My Year of Birds

2014 was my year of birds

In January I drew birds
 . . . . . . . . lots of them.

I transferred my drawings to tea bags
and made some books.

In February myself and a friend had a small exhibition entitled
'Winged Tales'
and I thought I would be tired of these birds

but I am not,
and these birds have traveled through many art projects throughout the whole year.

I recently created this collection of bird stones,
which have now flown to new homes.

What fun I have had with them all through the year.

I wouldn't be surprised if these birds continued to show up in 2015.

Stone Pins

I have taken some small stones
added some of my birds
and put a pin on the back

They can be worn alone

with a friend

or in a group.

Bird Eggs - Overflow Project #2

Another overflow project from my Winged Tales work
were these 'Bird Eggs'

I thought about making these when
I was busy making the books

but they had to wait until all the books were made

and until I had some time.

I am so glad they waited,
as sometimes these ideas just slip away
before there is time to play with them.

Once the eggs were made,

I had such fun playing with them
and taking some photos.

The Collection

We are at the final stages of autumn.
The leaves have blown off the trees,
the frost has made the flowers disappear,
and the rocks will soon be covered once again with snow.

To preserve a bit of their beauty,
and to help me through the many months of winter
I have played once again with botanical bits and rocks.

I preserved a series of  autumn beauties

As well as a summertime series

In a variety of sizes.

A collection that can be enjoyed individually or all together.

Inspired by Nature

I am constantly inspired by nature,
so knew I had to join in with the challenge theme of nature

I went on a 15 km (9 mile) hike a couple of days ago just a few miles from home
(photo above)

And last weekend my daughter and I drove a couple of hours to hike on the Alaskan coast.
We are always amazed the difference in vegetation that we find just a few hours away.

The forest is so big and lush compared to the forest where we live.

This short hike takes you to a little bay on the ocean,
where we love to explore and discover new things.

My pockets were heavy with smooth stones that I had collected,
and I also found a lovely piece of driftwood that found its way home with me.

The clouds and bits of showers added to the  beauty of the mountains.

On the hike back to the car, I picked a few pieces of fern

That joined my piece of driftwood

and a few of my rocks that I collected on the shore.

The beauty I find in nature is a constant inspiration.
